The Shining Part 2

The Shining

Part 2

Yes, the wife and I went to the Stanley Hotel and I dressed up in an Alice in Wonderland dress meant for a hyper-obese woman. I only did it cause I am the World's Greatest Husband, well after Kubrick's Jack Torrance...

This is a big week for TKOH Podcast. We add an all new host, making the dynamic duo the nerd-a-trois, we discuss at the greatest of lengths Kubrick's The Shining and Room 237. Jake's power went out midway through, which was awesome and made for some different audio.

King is very outspoken about his feelings for Kubrick's vision. We break down Kubrick's masterpiece and discuss the ins and outs of why King is wrong. The three of us empathize with King and his viewpoint, especially since it seems King views the book as an allegory for some very personal struggles, but let's face it he is wrong. Kubrick has the incredible ability to spark debate, conversation, controversy and obsession in its fans and critics alike.

Room 237 takes obsession to an entirely new level. The question remains, who is more insane Jack or the talking heads in this unique doc. We had fun with it, not Jake so much, but the rest of us did.

Think of The Shining, we argue that all of the images you recognize are from Kubrick's film not the King book. Part 2 is filled with awesomeness as we dive headfirst into the psychological deep end of the pool. There are some pretty brilliant references in the links below. Enjoy!

The Shining Part 1

THE SHINING

Part 1

We discuss The Shining this week. We talk the book and the ABC TV mini-series in Part 1. The Shining of course deserves at least two parts. This is such an important piece of American pop culture, it has references everywhere. The question remains, are these references from the book and mini-series or the Kubrick classic, which we talk about in Part 2. The book is something that we had never read, and it is really a masterpiece. We both really connected with it. The mini-series is also something...

Take the journey with us to the Overlook Hotel and pray that you can leave. Some guests never leave...

We also discuss the word genitals. Jake validates the idea that genitals is an atrocious phrase, much like moist or anus

IT is The Beginning... for us anyway

In this first podcast we explore IT. Spoiler Alert: The book was way better than the mini-series. Watching IT was truly a painful experience, it's freaking 3 hours long. The book was no small feat either, 46 hours of listening. Stephen Webber does a phenomenal job reading IT. Get ready to have your eardrums pleasured with the dulcet tones of Jake and Zo as we pontificate about the King.
